Though we do not run an Explorer Unit ourselves, many of our older Scouts choose to join
2nd Acomb Explorers once they turn 14 to continue their Scouting adventures, while
returning to us as Young Leaders in some of our younger sections.
SO WHY BE A YOUNG LEADER?
Many of our Young Leaders choose to join us once they leave Scouts, to give something back to the group that helped them grow as young people. Others join us temporarily as part of the volunteering element of their Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.
But whatever reason young leaders choose to join us, many things are guaranteed - vital life skills will be gained, which can be extremely beneficial for a University personal statement and CV. Here at West Thorpe, we value our Young Leaders as vital members of our section leadership teams. As a young leader, you will be instantly integrated into the leadership teams, and offered the chance to be involved in planning, running and managing of section meetings!
As a young leader, you are the future leaders of tomorrow, so buckle up, be prepared and GET INVOLVED!

Furthermore, you will also be given the opportunity to do extra training and missions to earn your 'Young Leader Belt' award - the highest award for any young leader to achieve.
